OOPS....Just One More Thing!

Here is a blog entry that was mysteriously hiding away until today!  In May 2015, just after Consolidation, a group of us made our way to Almond Beach...one of 11 in what is known as Shell Beach.  It was quite a memorable trip with LONG speedboat ride that partly took place in the Atlantic Ocean.  The beach is very near Venezuela in Region One of Guyana.  Here are some pictures.

This is an endangered Leatherback burying about 100 eggs on the beach about 9PM.  This is rather late in the season and I was so pleased to see the "exhibition".  She worked quickly to bury them then marched back out to the ocean.  Not very "maternal" by human standards, but
MOTHER NATURE KNOWS BEST!



There were beautiful fist sized blue butterflies and red birds in flight at Shell Beach..
unfortunately, no photos.

CLOSER TO HOME ~
This is a Peace Corps group of volunteers and trainees.  We came together at fellow PCV Lindsey's school to do a paint project.  She portioned off squares along the wall invited us along with community members to come share inspiring thoughts and pictures.  It was a bit rainy but plenty of support...well beyond what is seen here.  Congrats, Lindsey on the beautification of the school!

This is a run down family park in the New Amsterdam area.  It has potential and would be nice to see it revived.

Happy Friday, everyone!  Week two of intense training is done.  We have a field trip to Georgetown tomorrow that I am looking forward to.  I only hope that the weather tomorrow is as good as it was today.  We had just a few drops of rain mid day and for the most part, temperature was moderate.  I am looking forward to going to the Peace Corps office, the seawall and market.  Some time over the weekend I will need to get some more time on my phone card.  If you ever talk to me by phone and it suddenly drops, it may be because my minutes are out!  Sorry!  I will try to manage that better.  I only this evening found out how easy it is to get more minutes.  If you want to "hangout" with me on video chat, just let me know a good time to talk...it is free! This was another very busy day!  Our training group met at our training facility at Red Grounds and we were taken to Georgetown, about an hour away.  Our large group was broken down into many little groups with a PC staff member escorting us.  Good thing!  Georgetown is busy and aggressive!  There are RED ZONES that PC volunteers are not to be in.  However, on this escorted tour, we were shown some of those areas.  PC is a smart group of people.  We all know that if we are told we can't do something, we will explore to see what the big deal is.  So, we saw and we are informed. Those areas are high risk areas for many reasons.  As with anything, there is a bright side and I was amused when I saw an ox walking side by side with a little duck...best of friends!
